jun's interview

MULTIMEDIA
What has been your career path? How have you arrived to the point where you are? What did you do before?
Hello. My name is Jun-hun Oh. I majored in arts at Hongik University.
While I was attending university, I worked as an assistant teacher of 3Ds Max at Jung-ang Arts School as well. After graduating from university, I majored in 3D animation at the computer art graduate school of Academy of Art University located in San Francisco.

I was working as a freelancer after finishing graduate school in the summer a couple of years ago. I work at Barn Yard The Movie Inc. Now,I work at 2K games.
What parts of your work are the ones you enjoy most and least?
There is a project that I've been working on for some time. I plan to publish animation computer books who are giveng tip for animaton skill and introduce the contents to South Korea. It is about giving information about things that they felt as they worked and their skill of their fields.

preparing and making to short movie festivals, a work by AAU Students who directed and did animation work on, which I talked about earlier, is another big plan that I have. Because the work itself is spectacular, I am expecting very good results.
What new technologies are you experimenting with now?
The motion capture is new technology for game and movie. The motion capture technology has seen considerable technological advancement. In fact, in Barnyard as well, motion capture is being used for background characters who appear in some scenes. but it is not directly used as is. The motion obtained using mocap is re-worked to make it feel like key-frame animation that is opposite to the mocap feel. Also, it's not an easy task to use mocap for movements of horses or dogs.
For these kinds of animals, not only is it difficult to mocap in the first place, but on top of that, acting can't be expected from the animals. The animation that we're working on aims to touch the audience by having imagery characters perform. From that aspect, motion capture can't be relied on for everything. But the use of motion capture technology is increasing in its scope in fields other than animation, such as movies or games.
What professional publications or portals do you follow regularly?
professional publications is always interesting areas, because I was published my book.

authored a book named "Dream Maker" by collecting articles contributed to various mediums. This book contains information about the ways Korean animation can advance, seen from the perspective of animation artists who work in the US, as well as various information for students studying to be animation artists and ordinary people who are interested in the field, so that they can obtain a lot more information about the animation world."As I studied here in the US, I felt things are a lot different from how I imagined things would be while I was in South Korea. So I wanted to provide more accurate information."

In this book published by a famous Korean publisher "Sigongsa", there are interview articles of 11 Korean animation artists, including Sang-soon Bak, the supervisor of Rockstar Games, Chan-ho Lee, a game production manager, Myung-chul Suh, a character designer, and Hyung-gyu Kim, a lead artist, as well as an interview article of American Bill Roper, for a total of 12 interview articles.

Moreover
▲Preparing to study animation abroad
▲Explanation of terminology
▲Collection of animation and movie companies
▲Collection of game companies are included in the appendix.

I hope that my book can provide useful information to students who are studying animation, as well as ordinary people interested in the field in South Korea.
